Government Shutdown and Obstruction of Justice

Obstruction of justice can include crimes committed by judges, prosecutors, attorneys general, and elected officials in general.

Obstruction of justice is an attempt to interfere with the administration of the courts, the judicial system or law enforcement officers, including threatening witnesses, improper conversations with jurors, hiding evidence, or interfering with an arrest.

This is how Congress is acting. The Affordable Health Care Act was passed into law by the House and Senate and signed by the President. The Supreme Court ruled that the law was constitutional. President Obama was reelected by a large margin in the 2012 election. Those in congress who are trying to block the implementation of the law are obstructing justice and should be treated accordingly. If this is not obstruction of justice what is?

It is time our congress grow up and stop acting like a kid on a school playground. The law was legally passed, the Supreme Court issued an opinion that the law is constitutional and it is time to move on. In our country the government is “of the people, by the people and for the people”. If you don’t like what the government is doing elect a new one. That is how our system works.

Syria And Majority Rule.

In the United States the majority should not rule. The majority has the right to elect a leader they trust will make the right decisions the majority of the time. This is the way it should be. Today’s world is too complicated for every citizen to understand every issue facing this country. The best we can do is elect a leader that we trust and one that either has the knowledge on all issues confronting the country or has access to such knowledge.

If we lose that trust in the President then we should remove him from office by voting him out or impeachment if we deem necessary.

The President is right about destroying Syria’s chemical weapons if we feel countries should not use weapons of mass destruction. By allowing them to get away without repercussions we are sending a message to all nations, including Iran and their nuclear weapon development.

The Syrian crisis over chemical weapons should cause us to think about what we expect from our President. Do we elect a President and expect him to do what we want or should he do what he believes is right? If we want him to always do what the majority of citizens desire today’s technology allows each American to cast their ballot on every issue confronting the country. We can dispose of both branches of government and vote over the internet. The technology exists to make this happen.

We should demand our President know more than we do. It is unreasonable to expect the majority to make the right decision on every issue. The world is too complicated and us citizens are too busy to know everything about every issue.

We ended up in Iraq because we had 911 on our mind. The public is now deciding what should be done about Syria’s chemical weapons with the deceit in justifying Iraq on our mind. Will we regret this later like we now regret Iraq?

Personally I trust Obama to make the right decision over Romney, Santorum, Cain, Bachmann Gingrich or Perry.

Verizon and Civil Liberties

We live in a time when there is a constant “War on America” from factions in the middle east. During war there always is a compromise between taking steps to protect our country and the lives of its people and protecting civil liberties. We must find the balance. High tech surveillance helped to promptly capture the Boston bombers and maybe prevent another bombing in Time Square. Many are saying the President is infringing on our civil rights. I agree, however the greatest infringement on civil liberties is taking an innocent life.

The decision of where to draw the line should go beyond the President and our other elected officials. The subject demands a national discussion that begins now. A part of the discussion must be whether the enemy includes the Muslim faith itself or is it against small splinter groups and individuals within that religion. The American people need to be educated on this issue.

IRS Scandals

The Republicans, and many Democrats, are up in arms about the IRS spending taxpayers money on lavish meetings and “extras” and I agree with them. This was really stupid.

Perhaps the IRS should have taken the same tactic as their bosses in the Senate and Congress. Instead of using taxpayers money they should have accepted large “contributions” and “donations” from large tax paying corporations, Tea Party affiliates, Obama’s Organize For Action and various liberal big time contributors from Hollywood.

If they did they would be collecting money in the same manner that those in the senate and congress do. There is a good chance that the Koch Brothers and Karl Rove would have made a donation.

Dole, Nixon, Obama And Memorial Day

During World War II our leaders and soldiers did not consider failing as an option. Bob Dole served our country well as did Ronald Reagan.

The Dole’s and Reagan’s were men who thought first what was best for the country and then thought about how they could win an election. They were politicians who recognized that compromise was not a dirty word and they could not get everything they wanted.  They knew that their party was comprised of mere mortals and if someone was a Democrat they too were capable of good ideas.

If it was not for Watergate Nixon would be remembered as the President who got us out of Viet Nam and rekindled our relationship with China.

Compare these men to those in the Republican primary this past election; Gingrich, Romney, Paul, Cain, Bachmann, Santorum, Huntsman and Perry. No wonder we lost.

Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are talked about as candidates for 2016. If this is the type of candidate we have in 2016 we will lose again and we should. The Republican party has surrendered to the Tea Party.

Bob Dole was also right about Barack Obama. He does not realize communication is more than just a good speech. He still has not learned how to communicate including the art of listening. He blew it with health care by shutting the Republicans out of the discussion and has been paying a price ever since.

Further, Obama does not grasped the concept that for a president, failing is not an option. We are getting nowhere at resolving our economic problems including gaining better control of our debt. A major reason is the President has surrendered to complacency. He is our leader and he needs to lead.
